Last month, I was asked if I would like to participate in a work-related trip to the ANCC Magnet conference that’ll be hosted in Orlando, FL! For those not in nursing or from a healthcare background, the Magnet conference is a HUGE week-long event for a variety of healthcare professionals (primarily nurses of varying roles including management and leadership) to do continuing education sessions, networking, brainstorming, and recognizing individuals and prestigious organizations for nursing excellence (note: have you fallen asleep yet?). I’m really excited but probably because I live and breathe nursing, right?
The best part is, my hospital will pay for me to attend with 4 other people from work too- my associate manager, another bedside nurse from Maternity services, our nursing director, and our nursing chief executive!
This week has been so crazy trying to tie up loose ends and prep for working a long work weekend. One thing I thought about was giving thanks to my manager who gave our nursing director permission for me to attend in such short notice. FYI- in the hospital nursing setting, schedules are set very much in advance so if I tried doing this on my own time and expense, it realistically would have been rejected!
So I made my manager a thank you card that I’ll be giving to her after my trip.
I used Lawn Fawn’s Jump for Joy stamp set and coordinating dies to create this card. As you probably know, quality products in card making can feel like they cost an arm and a leg (but they’re worth it for sure!) so I have yet to build up a substantial Copic marker collection. I did snag some Nuvo markers, which I used for the images. They are also alcohol-based, so these gave me a taste of learning how to color and experiment with blending and shading. I used Lawn Fawn’s Big Scripty Sayings stamp and coordinating die set to cut out that Thanks that I tried positioning so it looked like the critters were holding onto it like a banner. I placed the images against my card front and it needed a little something something. I used some Wild Honey distress ink to create a faint blend behind the falling leaves. Still, it felt like it needed a little more. I’m the type of person who likes to add too many things and realize it’s too late to subtract, haha. So I was deliberate in placing that small strip of Lawn Fawn Perfectly Plaid fall cardstock to the bottom part of the card. I was still tempted to add some more (I was instinctively going to reach for sequins) but I decided to just finish the card by rounding with my We R Memory Keeper’s corner round punch.
