Megan’s Bundle of Joy | Baby Shower Card

This is the first card I’ve created in a couple weeks. I was definitely experiencing a bit of a creative block, lack of (lasting) inspiration, and motivation to create.

Recently, I received an invite to a baby shower for Matt’s cousin, Megan. I won’t be attending but I still want her to know we offer congratulations and joy for her first child and the journey of parenthood.

I wanted this card to be simple and bright, so springy colors are what I envisioned for this card. I already had two “baby” type of stamps from Lawn Fawn in my collection, so those were the sets I looked at for more inspiration.

I picked out the striped paper from a paper pad collection and used double-sided tape to cover a pre-cut/scored craft card with the paper. Ideally, I love making my own card bases with sturdy cardstock but I want to try using up old supplies from my “early days” of getting started in this hobby.

Then I used my Sizzix Big Shot and a Sizzix square die to cut a portion of Canson XL paper. I made sure to run it through a couple times to make sure it cut through, as watercolor paper can be rougher and thicker to die cut.

Next, I used Hero Arts Intense Black Ink and my MISTI stamping tool to stamp the image and small sentiment onto that watercolor square. I love using my MISTI when stamping on watercolor paper because the texture can make it hard to get a good stamped impression the first time. The MISTI definitely helps keep the paper aligned where you originally stamped, so re-aligning is minimal, if at all, because of the magnets. While I had these supplies out, I stamped out the big scripty “Congrats” sentiment too. With such an intricate die, I ran it twice through the Big Shot.

I used some Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers and a Pentel Aquabrush to “messy watercolor” the stork image and the background. I blasted it with my heat tool before mounting it to the card with some more double-sided tape.

To get the intricate “Congrats” onto the card, I dotted the back with the Zig 2-Way glue pen and used craft tweezers to help align it.

I was tempted to jazz up the striped background with small stamped images included in the stamp sets or with sequins. However, I wanted to stay true to simple and bright. Plus I would be sending this through the mail and I worried about embellishments falling or rubbing off in transit .I settled for using some striped twine as another interest point, and I was satisfied.

Congrats, Megan, on your Bundle of Joy!

I’ll be sending this off in the next week or so after buying a gift card for her. I liked this layout and I know a few other friends who will also be celebrating their bundles of joy in the upcoming months. I may play around with this layout and I’ll share the variations if I pursue this. Thanks for stopping by and see you for the next card!
